Scaffolding
Staircase

Level. Safe. Fast.

A flat, boarded platform over the stairwell so decorators, plasterers and electricians can work the full height of the stairs without balancing on a ladder. Adjustable legs stand on the treads, the platform sits dead level, and the banister comes out without a mark on it.

01Lift oneWhat you get

A floor where
there wasn't one.

Stairwells are the most dangerous place in a house to work from a ladder. A staircase scaffold replaces the ladder with a platform you can stand on, kneel on and put a paint tray on.

01

Dead level

Adjustable base jacks on every tread take up the height difference, so the platform is level whatever the pitch of the stairs.

02

Boarded edge to edge

Scaffold boards wall to wall across the stairwell, with toe boards so nothing drops into the hall.

03

Banister protected

We pad and sleeve the handrail and newel posts, and the standards stand on protection boards, not on the carpet.

04

Stairs still usable

You keep using the stairs underneath. We leave headroom and never block a fire route.

05

Guardrails both sides

Double guardrail all round, including the open side over the drop.

06

In and out fast

Up in a morning, down in an hour. We work around the trades' dates, not the other way round.

How a staircase
job goes.

Every stage has a named person and a date on it. You'll know who is turning up and when.

Asked
every week.

Will it damage my stairs or banister?

No. The legs stand on protection boards on the treads, the handrail and newel posts are padded and sleeved, and the carpet is covered from the front door to the top landing. We've never had a banister claim and we'd like to keep it that way.

Can we still use the stairs?

Yes. The platform sits high enough to walk under on most staircases, and we never block a fire route. For very low ceilings we'll talk it through with you first.

How long does it take to put up?

Two to three hours for a typical terrace or semi, including protection. Taking it down is under an hour.

Can't I just hire a stairwell tower?

Sometimes, and we hire those too. But a tower only covers one spot; a staircase scaffold gives you the whole stairwell at once, so the decorator finishes in one visit instead of moving a tower six times.
